The expression, “never, never give up” means to keep trying and never stop working towards your goals. Do you agree or disagree with this statement? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

In some ways I do agree with the statement “never, never give up” and also, in some other ways, I disagree with the statement. “Never, never give up” has a lot of meaning. The way you think influences what the meaning is.

First of all, I will talk about why I agree with the statement. What does ‘give up’ mean? Stop working toward your goals? Yes, that’s what it means. Also, it does mean to lose, give way, stop doing things, tell secrets, and other things. Then “never, never give up” can mean to ‘never, never lose to anyone’, ‘never, never give way to people’, ‘never, never tell secrets’, or maybe some other meaning. If you decide that ‘give up’ means not to keep trying and to stop working towards your goals, and your goal is not to lose to anyone, then “never, never give up” will mean to keep trying and never stop working and never lose to anyone. Then the meaning would be the same as the meaning of the others. Then, even if you interpret the expression, “never, never give up” to mean ‘keep trying’ and never stop working towards your goals. It can also mean you don’t give up just because you change your goals, because you aren’t giving up. Therefore, I agree with the statement.

On the other hand, I disagree with the statement. Yes, “never give up” does mean to keep trying and never stop working towards your goals, but the expression “never, never give up” has two “nevers”. Then, the meaning of that now, might be to never keep trying, and to stop working towards your goals. This is because it says “never, never” when, it should be “ever”. If you think about it this way, the expression “never, never give up” should mean the same as “ever give up” shouldn’t it?

To conclude, I agree and disagree with the statement because of the way the expression changes meaning. You should be careful when using the expression “never, never give up!” Or it would be better to say “never give up”. If you say “never, never give up” to me, I might get confused. Anyway, what do you think the meaning of, “never, never give up” is? Think about it for yourself.
